Joe has won field trials with four different dogs but rates his biggest success as being selected for Scotland with five dogs over the past three years.
He has also won numerous tests and on two occasions has been placed both first and second in the same KC Open Test!
I was first introduced to CSJ when competing for Scotland. Our national team was sponsored by CSJ and I was struck by the friendliness and professionalism. I then had an issue with a trialling springer of ours called Missy who, when working hard in preparation for competitions, would lose condition and have loose stools on the food we used to feed. I tried CSJ Champ! at the recommendation of Bill Leonard, a former A Panel spaniel judge and successful competitor, Champ! settled Missy's stomach and kept her in great condition and she won her novice trial two months after changing food and was soon selected for Scotland, too. Now all of our dogs are fed on CSJ as we want those sort of results throughout our kennels.
How it all started...
Joe got involved in shooting and field trialling through his grandfather Edward Martin, who has trained gundogs professionally for many years.
He used to visit Grandpa during school holidays and work with him in the kennels, but says, “It was mainly our days out rabbiting that got me hooked.”
The kennels then and now...
Joe’s grandpa ran boarding kennels alongside training gundogs, but the only dogs in Joe’s kennels are his own or client dogs in for training. He adds, “It's a lot quieter with no Terriers here for holidays.”
He owns twelve dogs - four Labradors, four Springers and four Cockers
Clients dogs usually number 20-30
Based near Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders the kennels also stock a range of CSJ dog foods
