Kathrin Tasker is part of Surrey Search and Rescue (SURSAR). This group of volunteers are part of bigger charitable organisation, ‘The Association of Lowland Search and Rescue’.(ALSAR)

On the 9th January 2012, a vulnerable high risk patient went missing from the Priory Hospital, Hayes. The seventeen year old, who was being fed against her will, walked out of the hospital and intentionally hid to avoid being found. The local police at Bromley were notified. They alerted Lowland Search and Rescue through the call out system.

Although local officers and the TSG had undertaken some searches of the hospital, grounds and house to house enquiries, the young woman had not been found.

A search utilising police assets, combined with the Lowland Search Teams was started, aongst those volunteers from Surrey Search and Rescue, was Kathryn Tasker and her dog ‘Winnie’.

Kathrin was tasked with searching a rural area close to the hospital. The area included some dense areas of brambles and woodland had been searched previously by local officers.

After a short period of time, Winnie, Kathrin’s dog made an indication amongst some very dense undergrowth, where ultimately the missing woman was found hiding. Kathrin and Winnie stayed with her until police arrived and the young woman was detained and ultimately returned to the Priory Hospital for treatment. Kathrin and her dog received a commendation for their work - see article on Met Police website.
