Country: Scotland
Graeme currently has 25 Scandinavian Hounds.
Graeme's list of successes is impressive and, aside from winning the European and World Championships twice in Dryland discipline, Graeme says his passion is for racing on snow and his most memorable wins include:
March 2007 took a team of 16 dogs to 5th place at the World Championships (on snow) in Gafsele, Sweden.
This was in the open class, the elite class, with 35 teams on the start line, the largest field ever assembled for a World Championship race.
The following weekend went even better, 2nd at the European Championships in Hamar, Norway.
Finished the Pirena Stage race in the Pyrennes, 4 times.Finishing in the top 10 each time, 3rd in 2008, with a home bred team.
Also claimed 8 UK titles along the way, racing smaller teams on wheels.
"Over the past 15 yrs I have fed my dogs all the top brand dog foods on the market, both in UK and in Europe, in search of a suitable one. Some have been better than others, but I have now found the food I am most happy with.
CSJ helps keep them all in great condition with plenty of energy and drive for working. It saves me time too as there is so much less waste to deal with. In short it is the best food I've ever fed and I would recommend it to anyone with hard working dog.”
How it all began…
Graeme was posted to Norway with the Army about 12 yrs ago, and owned 2 Siberian Huskies at the time.
He saw the local dogs( around Lillehammer) and was instantly impressed with their athletic abilities. As a competitive Triathlete himself he could appreciate the attitude for work and their performance!
He says "I saw some strange looking dogs out there during those years and ended up buying several” - which became his breeding stock.
The Current Kennel
Graeme's 25 Scandinavian Hounds are a cross bred Alaskan Husky/Short Haired Pointer, bred predominantly for speed, endurance and working attitude.
What's next?
Graeme plans to support SDAS races up until the New Year, then out to Norway in January and race in the World Championships late March 2011 - so watch this space!
