FTCh Yarrow Georgio of Claybeck proves to be 'in form'..

The Labrador Club of Scotland held its 2 Day Open Qualifying Stake for 24 Any Variety Retrievers on

Tuesday 13th & Wednesday 14th November 2012. We had an entry of 54 dogs with entries coming from far and wide.

The trial which was sponsored by CSJ Specialist Canine Feeds was held at Phones Estate, by Newtonmore, Inverness-shire by kind permission of the Phones Estate and head keeper Michael Glass.

The Steward of the Beat Michael Glass and his team ran a very safe two days and they worked continuously throughout the trial to ensure it went well. On the first day which was predominantly on Partridge they produced some fantastic shooting with an abundance of game. At times though and with the high winds behind them the birds proved to be a little over challenging which on occasions led to a lack of game on the ground.  However when game was shot, the handlers and dogs demonstrated a consistently high level of work with some excellent and at times long retrieves making it extremely difficult for the judges to separate them.

We still had 16 dogs going into the second day which was conducted on Pheasants and Partridge. The winds had subsided which allowed the guns to get game on the ground consistently ensuring the trial to flowed at a good steady pace.  The keepers work relentlessly to keep the birds coming and our four judges did a great job, always ensuring that the handlers and dogs had the best possible opportunity to mark and retrieve game.

The Field Trial Sub Committee was in attendance, either as competitors or assisting to ensure that the trial went without a hitch and from a Field Trial Secretary’s point of view it’s brilliant to have such great support. The feedback received so far has been excellent, in particular how good the atmosphere was and how friendly and professional everyone involved was.

The trial turned out to be an excellent event both socially and competitively with great ground, fantastic scenery, varied weather and challenging retrieves for handlers and dogs, all culminating with a very worthy winner: Colin Maddinson with his newly qualified FTCh Yarrow Georgio of Claybeck and we wish him and all the other competitors who have qualified the best of luck for the Retriever Championship at the end of November.
