Land-slide Victory at SDAS Tentsmuir Race March 2013

With our biggest & strongest dog, H, out of action since November with a niggling carpel injury, and me having been diagnosed as having asthma just prior to the start of the winter, I struggled at times to keep ahead of the competition in the smaller team classes this season.  Musher effort being a major factor of success on the hilly courses...

Luck was on my side though for the final race of the season, as due to forest operations, the trail set by the Forestry Commission & was one that would reflect the power & speed of the dogs alone, with little opportunity for results to be improved by musher assistance.

As race organiser, John knew he would be busy, so having already secured his championship gold, he left all the teams to me to run.

We analysed the competition, as always, & planned the teams accordingly, with my main objective being to field our best 4 dog combination to secure an uncompromising win in the 4 dog class.

Heat one saw me finish well ahead of the game in all four classes, and yet again on heat two, and making history as the first musher to win all four classes, with a 40 second lead in both the 6-dog and 3-dog classes, a 70 second lead in the 2-dog class and a massive 3 minute lead in the 4-dog class, being the fastest purebred team - beating not only the 6-dog purebred times, but also, all but two of the hound teams in the open 4 dog class!  Simply Awesome!
