Nail-biting end to ABSA Junior UK Championship

15 year old Ayla Lovegrove and her 20 month old Alaskan Malamute bitch Emme competed in  the last race of the season on 19th February and after a tense wait whilst the awards were calculated for the season... Ayla and Emme were announced winners of the title with just 2 points to spare!

Ayla’s proud mum, Natalie, wrote to CSJ with the news as Emme (official name Chaydo Out Of The Blue With Arctictribe WTD’) has been fed on CSJ since she was a puppy because their other Malamute Elmo had suffered with colic until Natalie discovered CSJ.

The winning youngsters also won the KODI Memorial Trophy for the highest placed Junior Alaskan Malamute team in the UK and Emme had also recently been awarded her Working Team Dog title by the Alaskan Malamute Club America.

The Lovegrove family became engrossed with the breed only six years ago when Natalie’s husband confessed to a lifelong yearning to own a Malamute. They duly researched the breed, talked to breeders and made a commitment that their dogs should be worked

Their first dog was Elmo who was rehomed by the breeder so came to them at 13 months old. Then came Maddie who was also rehomed and went on to win numerous accolades including being awarded the UK's 19th Top Malamute Bitch for 2010 in the AMCUK Moya awards.

Both parents now race, Ayla has been racing since she was 11 and her younger brother Hayden is already taking part in the supervised Younger Junior trails with Elmo.

With herself and Emme holding the official title of ABSA ‘Affiliated British Sleddog Activities’ J1 UK Champions for the 2011/2012 racing season Ayla is now planning to enjoy the summer as ‘just a teenager’ and then decide whether to retire, race one more season as a junior or race in adult classes………………..watch this space.
