CSJ sponsors the 2013 Pre-Continental Shepherds Trial

This event began last year when the organisers of the Continental Sheepdog Championships that were taking place in the Netherlands, wanted to test the course, the sheep and IT before the main event – basically a full rehearsal!  The PRE - Continental was born!

All the handlers who had qualified to run at the Continental Championships were offered the chance to enter and run on the course.  (Who wouldn’t want that opportunity?!!)

The top 16 dogs competed in the Final with Serge van der Zweep (Netherlands) taking the Championship and Reserve ‘titles’ with his dogs, Eve and Jim, while, the eventual Continental Champion, Jaran Torbjorn Knive (Norway) came third with Maico.

Last year’s event was such a success for everyone involved that they felt it had to continue:  Handlers from 12 countries (including top handler, Faansie Basson, South Africa) have already entered this year’s trial (96 dogs) with a reserve list of another 16!!

The event will be run on three fields so every handler will have three runs over the first two days:  Two qualifier runs (National course) and one double gather run.  The best two results will determine the 16 qualifiers for the Final on the Sunday.

CSJ looks forward to working with the organisers – Eric Groot, Robert van Duijvenbode, Petra Groot and Ellen Kraan - of this fast-becoming, prestigious event in the sheepdog trialling calendar and wish them lots of luck with all the hard work this will entail.
