Dog Sports - Gundogs

CSJ has been deeply involved in the gundog world for nearly 20 years

We’re proud to have sponsored both the Scotland International Gundog Team from 2004 – 2014 and currently the Wales International Gundog Team who compete at The Game Fair.

The CSJ Charity Test continues to be run each year in Scotland, managed by Alison Sorley, raising a large amount of money for our chosen charity – Pet Blood Bank.

About Gundogs

Historically Gundogs assist hunters in finding and retrieving game.

Field Trials were developed to test the working ability of Gundogs in competitive conditions. The trials resemble a day's shooting in the field and dogs work with a variety of game, from rabbits and hares, to partridges and pheasants. Trials that run throughout the autumn and winter months use live game, while tests that are held in the summer use dummies. Gundogs are made up from a wide range of breeds, including retrievers, spaniels, pointer and setters.

Field Trials are very popular, attracting hundreds of competitors and are an important part of countryside sports.

Gun dogs are divided into three types:

  • Retrievers
  • Flushing dogs
  • Pointing breed

Billy Steel Jnr. says ...

" It didn’t take a lot of persuasion to see the benefits of CSJ feeds. The first thing I noticed was the shine to my dogs’ coats and I’ve found that at the end of a lot of hard work they have kept condition really well this season. "
