Dog Sports - Canicross

Canicross is one of the fastest growing dog sports and we've supported it since 2010

In 2015 we were the main sponsor of the ECF European Canicross Championship and will similarly supporting the IFSS European Championship Dryland 2016 as well as the CSJ Midland Canicross Series for the 2nd year running.

Some of our sponsored Canicross handlers:

Canicross has become popular all over Europe, especially in the UK

Closely related to Bikejoring, where handlers cycle with their dog and Skijoring, where participants ski rather than run, Canicross is growing fast as a popular sport.

About Canicross - cross country running with dogs

The Kennel Club has added canicross as an official Kennel Club recognised canine activity. The activity, which is already popular with dog owners across the country, is a great way to keep fit and healthy with dogs.

A great way for people and dogs to keep fit

People of all ages and abilities can have a go at Canicross, including children and the disabled. Some breeds are very well suited to not only running and pulling, but running at steady pace over a long distance.

Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Secretary, said: “We are very excited to recognise canicross as an official Kennel Club activity. For those who are already interested in running and who own a dog, it is an easy and fun way to keep both human and canine fit and healthy.

Canicross can be run with one or two dogs, always attached to the runner. The runner wears a waist belt and the dog wears a harness. The two are joined by a bungee cord or elastic line that reduces shock to the person and dog, when the dog pulls.

Originally Canicross dogs were sled or Spitz types such as the husky or malamute, but now all breeds can take part including cross-breeds, small terrier breeds and large breeds, including Rottweilers and Standard Poodles.

" “CSJ have supported us from our early days in the sport & our dogs have gone from strength to strength over this time. The whole team love the food, it continues to fuel & keep them fit through a busy training/competition schedule.” "
